Al Franken wins Democratic Senate primary in Minnesota

Al Franken is the Democratic candidate for Senate in Minnesota
Comedian, actor and former liberal radio talk show host Al Franken has won the Democratic senatorial primary for Minnesota.

He will be taking on incubmbent Senator Norm Coleman and the Independence Party’s Dean Barkley.

Franken beat six opponents taking 66% of the Democratic primary vote.

The 57-year-old Franken is a three-time Emmy Award winning writer (for “Saturday Night Live” which he also acted on) and was nominated for the award seven times.

Franken has admitted to using cocaine and to having a net-worth of approximately $4.3 million.

Franken has written two feature films of note - one he starred in and it flopped “Stuart Saves His Family” and the other he co-wrote and it was critically claimed “When A Man Loves a Woman.”

Franken has written several books, among them the 1996 book entitled “Rush Limbaugh Is a Big Fat Idiot and Other Observations” and “Lies and the Lying Liars Who Tell Them: A Fair and Balanced Look at the Right

Norm Coleman, also a Jew, is the incumbent Senator in Minnesota that Franken is taking on. Coleman celebrated his 20th birthday in Woodstock and actively participated in the 1960’s counter-culture. He later got a law degree from the University of Iowa and later sold out on the Democratic Party for the Republican party. Coleman supported the Iraq War, does not believe in any timetable for the removal of troops from Iraq and Coleman also believes that we should be drilling for oil in the Arctic National Wildlife Refuge.

Since 1993 Coleman has been a pro-life candidate but supports stem cell research. When he was mayor of St. Paul, Coleman voted against an effort to repeal a city law that prohibited discrimination on gays.

And demonstrating the biggest amount of hypocrisy is Coleman’s position on marijuana where he states:

“I oppose the legalization of marijuana because, as noted by the Office of National Drug Control Policy, marijuana can have serious adverse health affects on individuals. The health problems that may occur from this highly addictive drug include short-term memory loss, anxiety, respiratory illness and a risk of lung cancer that far exceeds that of tobacco products. It would also make our transportation, schools and workplaces, just as examples, more dangerous.”

According to Coleman’s former college classmate Norm Kent, Coleman smoked marijuana regularly in his college years and was an outspoken opponent of drug busts. (Strange how Norm Coleman and Norm Kent were roommates, I wonder if its the “norm” for two “Norms” to do that… ha ha…)

Not that it matters, but that tips the scales in favor of Franken for me. So for our Minnesota readers, please vote for the Democrat in your state. Now, I’m off to smoke a spliff….

“American Prayer” = Obama propoganda

Macy Gray, Jason Alexander, Whoopi Goldberg, Forest Whitaker, Cyndi Lauper, Herbie Hancock, Barry Manilow, Joss Stone and a host of other celebs have teamed up with former Eurythmics guitarist Dave Stewart for an “inspirational” video for change in support of Presidential candidate Senator Barack Obama.

The song is a bit sleepy and boring (and includes a video excerpt from Martin Luther King Jr.), but I think it targets the older voters who might have missed the “Yes We Can” video that will.i.am from The Black Eyed Peas put together earlier this year.
