After winning two Emmy’s for writing jokes for the Academy Awards you’d think prolific comedy writer Bruce Vilanch would look more attractive than he does. I mean its Hollywood after all and the guy is gay. Shouldn’t that mean he would eat better and have a persona trainer? Well whoever enabled this guy (probably the producer of “Hollywood Squares“) did a horrific thing, cause everytime the Oscars hype begins they cart him out on the TV and I have to watch his ugly face. Kind of harsh I know, but Vilanch you are funny because you say things that you should not have the courage to say. You are better kept hidden under a rock…
With the Oscars telecast less than 13 days away, we need this fat-ass Vilanch to start writing some good jokes for Jon Stewart and we need this to start now! Supposedly the WGA will call off the dogs and let writer’s back to work come Wednesday, so that will mean 10 days to work on the Oscars…
“Falling Slowly” from “Once” is our Oscar pick for ‘Best Song’
Cinemascopian posted all of the 5 nominated songs for ‘Best Song’ as well as 2 of the nominated composers up for ‘Best Original Score’ here…. Three of the five nominees for ‘Best Song’ come from Disney’s “Enchanted” (and all three are co-written by Alan Menken and Stephen Schwartz.) All three songs (”Happy Working Song” “So Close” and “That’s How You Know”) are all worthy nominees this year. Menken has won 8 Oscars and with three songs in contention, I think the film and he will be competing against themselves.
I’m a fan of “Raise It Up” from the movie “August Rush” (which I didn’t see and I’m pretty sure most Academy voters didn’t see either….) I think the vocals are a bit weird, but the song itself is worthy.
My choice for this year’s Oscar winner is “Falling Slowly” from the movie “Once” by Glen Hansard and Markéta Irglová. The film revolves around the composition of this precious song and the performers in the film are the writers of the song, therefore giving the Academy membership an even better to vote for it….
There are not many things that comic actor David Spade does that are worth sharing. With this year’s Oscar telecast supposedly in doubt, Spade created a “There Will be Blood” spoof viral entitled “There Will be Oscars” for comedy video website FunnyOrDie. Spade tries to embody Daniel Day-Lewis’ portrayal of character ‘Daniel Plainview’.
I’m wondering how much $$$ FunnyOrDie are paying the comics who post virals on their website?
No official announcements have been made by either the WGA or the AMPTP.
The jubilation city and industry-wide may begin as early as Friday when all the T’s and I’s are dotted by the negotiators and the agreement is approved by a majority of the WGA membership who by now are not only weary of their leverage against the studios but are probably also sick of the ill-will against them from viewers who are sick of watching shows like “Moment of Truth” and “My Dad can beat up your Dad.”
We are sure that 10,500 members of the WGA are not that stupid!
Most eagerly awaiting the return of the writers is the telecast of the February 24th Academy Awards which will in many ways be a symbolic celebration ceremony that all parties in Hollywood can now play again nicely.
Guild negotiators David Young, Patric M. Verrone and John Bowman are scheduled Monday to brief the union’s negotiating committee board on the proposed deal.’
The AMPTP’s contract with actors expires on June 30th, and leaders of the Screen Actors Guild (SAG) — a consistent ally of the writers throughout the strike — have said they did not expect to begin negotiations early. AFTRA which also represents actors and often negotiates with SAG said that it will be negotiating with companies on its own soon.
