“South Park” creators Trey Parker and Matt Stone have set up a viable alternative to YouTube-based distribution of popular clips from the hit animated show: by giving away episodes on SouthParkStudios.com.

Parker and Stone said in a statement:

“We got really sick of having to download our own show illegally all the time, so we gave ourselves a legal alternative.”

The site offers every “South Park” episode including the current one, which stays live for a week after its airdate and then goes dark for the rest of the month at which point it is added to the site’s back catalog (so of the 169 episodes of the show curretntly produced, 168 are available on the live beta version of the site).

For now, the episodes will stream without ad breaks, but Comedy Central has indicated that they will eventually include advertising.

Comedy Central parent company Viacom’s lawsuit against YouTube is another reason why “South Park” is distributing outside of YouTube.

Dopetracks.com, a hip-hop music social network, is redefining the creation and dissemination of music with the launch of their “Dopetracks All-Stars Mixtape.”

The online music website, in existence since April 2007 created The Dopetracks All-Stars Mixtape from talent within their community including iconic emcee Chali 2na of Jurassic 5.

The four contest winning rappers won a month long online competition, battling hundreds of up and coming rappers using recording technology developed by Dopetracks.com. Chosen by celebrity rappers MC Lyte, Mistah FAB, Wordsworth, and Jurassic Five’s Chali 2na the winners were flown to Los Angeles to lay down vocals.

Chali 2Na said:

“Everybody has their own character, or something about them that stands out from everybody else. But it’s still not a thing that’s gimmicky, you know what I mean. It seems like everybody is coming from an authentic place. That, plus their tremendous skill, is why we chose them.”

Tal Pink, Dopetracks co-founder said:

“I could definitely sense from Chali that, you know, when he met these guys and he heard them, he really respected them… It’s just great, I mean, to have Chali’s voice on there, it’s more than just icing, you know, it really represents his connection with them.”
