66-year-old, actress, director and Democratic party cheerleader Barbra Streisand will perform for Senator Barack Obama at a Hollywood fundraiser next week and will also be honored on December 7th at the John F. Kennedy Center for the Performing Arts in Washington D.C.
Joining Streisand are actor Morgan Freeman, choreographer and dancer Twyla Tharp, country singer George Jones and Roger Daltrey & Pete Townshend of ‘The Who’ as fellow Kennedy Center honorees.
Lame duck President George W. Bush and first lady Laura Bush will hand out the awards and it will be broadcast by CBS later on in the month as a two-hour special.
Mickey Rourke stars in Aronofsky’s “The Wrestler”
After a very poorly recieved outing with his previous film “The Fountain” which was co-financed and distributed by Warner Bros. and New Regency, director Darren Aronofsky re-booted his film-making formula and garnered a bidding war for his latest film “The Wrestler” at the Toronto Film Festival.
Winning the bidding war was Fox Searchlight, Rupert Murdoch’s specialty division that paid a reported $4 to $5 million for the film rights for the United States alone.
“The Wrestler” won the Golden Lion at last week’s Venice Film Festival.
Cited for a riveting performance from Mickey Rourke as an over-the-hill wrestler, the film was ultimately too much for other bidders Lionsgate and Sony.
The film will be released later in this year in time for Academy qualification and will join Danny Boyle’s “Slumdog Millionaire” as two of Searchlight’s big Academy contenders in the 4th quarter.
Oscar-winning actor Morgan Freeman was injured in a serious car accident in Mississippi Sunday night.
The “Dark Knight” star sufferred a car crash at about 11:30 p.m. in Batesville, Miss.
Freeman was driving a 1997 Nissan Maxima that went off the edge of Mississippi Highway 32 and flipped several times before coming to a rest.
The 71-year-old actor and his passenger, Demaris Meyer, were extracted from the car using the Jaws of Life.
Freeman, who talked to state troopers after the wreck, had to be airlifted to the Regional Medical Center in Memphis, Tenn., hospital, which is located more than 100 miles from the scene of the crash.
It appears that Freeman broke his shoulder and arm but is joking with nurses at the hospital according to the Daily News.
