Mr. Blackwell = Dead
Born Richard Selzer, but better known as “Mr. Blackwell” the self-proclaimed arbiter of fashion sense questioned the style of celebrities as far ranging as Madonna, Britney Spears and Marilyn Monroe.
He died today at Cedars-Sinai Medical Hospital in Beverly Hills from an intestinal infection at age 86.
In the early 1960’s actresses such as Marilyn Monroe, Sophia Loren and Elizabeth Taylor made his “Worst Dressed List” list in the early 1960s. In total he had 48 of these annual lists which were routinely announced from his Hancock Park home. The lists would help sales of his own designs and his business survived until the mid-1970’s.
In the 1980’s Mr. Blackwell returned to acting playing cameo roles.
Mr. Blackwell is survived by his partner Spencer, of more than 60 years.
