Regency TV closes its doors after 10 years

Regency TV, the US indie behind TV shows “Roswell” “Malcolm in the Middle” and “The Bernie Mac Show“, is closing after 10 years.
Regency is jointly owned by Fox Television Studios and New Regency.
Industry insiders have been speculating about its closure for some time. The move comes after Regency boss Robin Schwartz left to become president of Oprah Winfrey’s cable channel OWN, a joint venture with Discovery Communications that will debut in the second half of 2009.
Additionally, the closure of Regency TV is thought to be related to the recent top executive changes at parent company New Regency.
In May, Hutch Parker became New Regency’s co-CEO along with Robert Harper. It is believed that Parker and Harper do not believe that the current business model works.
Regency TV Vice President’s Stephanie Levine and Andrea Shay were informed they’d be jobless last week.
Regency TV launched in 1998 under president Gail Berman with hits such as “Malcolm in the Middle” and “Roswell.”
