Russian office freak-out video merely an annoying marketing gimmick
For those of you who remember as far back as last week, you may recall a viral video hitting your in-box wherein a Russian office drone goes bat-shit crazy, slams a co-worker in the head with a computer keyboard, then proceeds to throw monitors and office supplies and scream like a mad-man until security agents are finally able to take him down and drag him out. This video could have been a thought-provoking fly-on-the-wall look at the results of Soviet Socialist idealism being replaced by Western style free-market capitalism. But, as it turns out, it was just a wacky marketing gimmick care of Kazakhstani director Timur Bekmambetov to promote his upcoming film Wanted, starring baby-hoarder Angelina Jolie.
(for those of you who don’t remember last week, the video is here).

Yeah, someone needs to explain to Bekmambetov that in order for a viral video to be an effective marketing device, it should probably tie in to your product in some way. Like when Coca-Cola released all those parking structure surveillance-cam rape videos to promote Cherry Coke Zero? Didn’t really work out. However when the Santa Clarita Police Department released all those parking structure surveillance-cam rape videos to inform my new neighbors that a registered sex offender was moving to the area? Worked out swimmingly. I STILL can’t leave the house without someone throwing a bottle at my head. Way to go, SCPD!
