Warner shutters Warner Independent and Picturehouse

After months of speculation, Barry Meyer and Allan Horn announced today that Warner Bros. will shut down BOTH their arthouse divisions – Warner Independent and Picturehouse – to focus their studio’s attention on more “big splosion superhero movies.”
Filling the void of non-explosion-centric films will apparently be the newly ultra-slim-fasted New Line, or perhaps some new entity as of yet to be disclosed. Hmmmm… I hear DreamWorks might be up for grabs soon. But would Spielberg be able to deal with Warner’s many-fingers-in-every-pie style of corporate bureaucracy? Methinks not.
