SIMPSONS director signs on for PET

David Silverman, the man who brought “Spider Pig” to the big screen care of last year’s Simpsons Movie, has signed on to direct The Pet, a live-actioner from a script by Matt Lieberman about an average-guy human who becomes the household pet to a group of aliens.
This Disney-produced project should in no way be confused with New Regency’s Pets, about an average-guy human who becomes the household pet to a group of aliens. The definitely-not-similar Regency project was announced last September, to be written and directed by James Gunn, best known for Slither (which was in no way similar to Night of the Creeps) and Dawn of the Dead (which was NOTHING like Dawn of the… oh).
And though the differences between the two projects should be glaringly obvious – I mean, the Disney project is “the pet” singular whereas the New Regency one is “pets” plural, duh – lest ye suspect some intellectual-property theft is afoot, please keep in mind that the plots for both projects were ripped off from Porno for Pyros’ 1993 hit about humans becoming household pets to a group of aliens, called “Pets.”
When asked for comment, James Gunn said, “at least they didn’t steal the plot for the OTHER movie I’m directing, called ‘Jeremy Spoke In Class Today,’ which has nothing to do with the Pearl Jam song. Disney reps meanwhile stated: “The similarites between these two projects are completely superficial and coincidental. Likewise, our upcoming drama ‘Jeremy’ is NOTHING like the upcoming James Gunn film, nor the Pearl Jam song of the same name, even though all three are about a kid named Jeremy who draws pictures of mountain tops with him on top — lemon yellow sun — then bites the recess lady’s breast and shoots up his school. Now if you’ll excuse me, I have to go look at dailies for Smells Like Teen Spirit, which is about the deodorant, NOT the Nirvana song.”
