“Terminator 4″ Set for May 2009 release
Big news came today from Warner Bros. as the pre-production for “Terminator 4″ got underway and staff moved to Albequerque, New Mexico to prep the film that will being Principal Photography on May 5th.
The film, which was announced as a May 2009 (Memorial Day Weekend) release will be directed by McG and stars Christian Bale and Sam Worthington. The title for the film will be “Terminator Salvation: The Future Begins” and it is thought that the film will be the first in a trilogy of films that will star Worthington and Bale who are signed on for an option for three pictures.
Fox might be pissed, because their “Night at the Museum II” film was set to release on May 22, 2009 and that film did $251 million in North America when it opened Christmas 2006. However, I think that two films of this magnitude can succesfully survive the magnitude of a shared opening weekend because the Terminator franchise will aim for an R-Rating and ‘Museum’ is clearly a PG-rated Ben Stiller starring film.
Warner has North America distribution rights through Halcyon, the owner of the franchise rights to the “Terminator” series. “Terminator 3: Rise of the Machines” or “T3″ was released through Intermedia in 2003 and earned a dissapointing $150 million in North America.
The plot line fo rthe film is under tight wraps. But I have a good feeling we’ll be getting some info on it shortly. All I know is that the film is set sometime before Terminator 3.
