Sir Daniel Day Lewis knighted with Oscar statue
One of the most poignant images of this evening’s Oscar ceremony was watching Daniel Day Lewis (or DDL as those in the know refer to him) receive his award for Best Actor for the portrayal of ‘Daniel Plainview’ in the movie “There Will Be Blood.”
A heavy favorite to win, DDL arrived on-stage to accept the award from presenter Helen Mirren (who won Best Actress last year for her portrayal of ‘Queen Elizabeth II’ in “The Queen“) and said “this is the closest I’ll ever come to being knighted.
Of course, if DDL was a British citizen and not Irish, there’s a good chance his 2 Oscar wins (”My Left Foot” and now “There Will Be Blood“) would entitle him to becoming Sir Daniel Day Lewis…
