Sony will be making “2012″ – which is a spec script purchase as their 2009 summer tentpole and have attached German director Roland Emmerich to the film.

Emmerich came in to Sony and pitched the film as well as his budget projections for the film. He co-wrote the film with “10,000 B.C.” co-writer Harald Kloser. It is estimated that the film’s price tag will exceed $200 million.

The film, is a disaster picture much like Emmerich’s “The Day After Tomorrow” and the title “2012″ refers to the date on which the world is supposed to end.

The Emmerich-directed prehistoric epic “10,000 B.C.” will be released by Warner Bros. and Legendary Pictures on March 7th.
