Hasbro and Universal sign six-year deal

Universal Pictures announced a six-year partnership with Hasbro to produce at least four feature films based on branded properties that include: “Monopoly,” “Candy Land,” “Clue,” “Ouija,” “Battleship,” “Magic, The Gathering” and “Stretch Armstrong.”
After the success of Hasbro property “Transformers” with DreamWorks and Paramount, and the upcoming “G.I. Joe” in 2009 for Paramount, Universal apparently wanted in on the action.
“G.I. Joe” will be a 2009 tentpole for Paramount Pictures, with director Stephen Sommers and Lorenzo di Boneventura producing.
The deal was engineered by William Morris Agency who reps Hasbro and signed by Universal’s chairman Marc Shmuger and co-chairman David Linde.
The most likely next project is “Monopoly,” which Ridley Scott and Scott Free have been developing. Although Scott is next inclined to direct the Russell Crowe film “Nottingham” for Universal.
