Two performances combined to embody Edith Piaf in Oscar nominee ‘La Vie En Rose’
Marion Cotillard is nominated for a Best Actress Oscar at this Sunday’s Academy Awards for her acting work in “La Vie en Rose.” I, for one, think that Cotillard deserves the award even though the odds on favorite is Julie Christie for “Away From Her.” However, the portrayal of Edith Piaf by Cotillard is a lip-synch performance as well.
The voice of the legendary Edith Piaf’s singing voice in the movie is performed by French singer Jil Aigrot.
Edith Piaf, was a French cabaret singer who was born in 1915 and died in 1963. She began singing at age 15 in Parisian cafés. In later life, she grew in popularity and performed all over Europe and America. Her highly emotional and powerful voice was enormously expressive.
