Roy Scheider = Dead
Roy Scheider, died Sunday afternoon in Little Rock, Arkanas as the age of 75.
Scheider, best known for playing everyman roles, most famously as the agonized police chief of “Jaws”.
His first major film role in 1971’s “Klute” with Jane Fonda later led to a role in William Friedkin’s “French Connection”, as ‘Buddy Russo’, the slightly more restrained partner to Gene Hackman’s marauding police detective, ‘Popeye Doyle.’ Scheider was nominated for the first of two Oscar nominations for that role.
Other highlights in Scheider’s career include a role Bob Fosse’s “All That Jazz” in 1979 which he was also earned him an Oscar nomination. Followed by films like “Blue Thunder” “Russia House” and the role of ‘Dr. Benway’ in William S. Burrugh’s “Naked Lunch” in 1991.
Survivors include his wofe, three children and two grandchildren.
