Pimp C = dead from cough syrup….
Hip-hop performer and member of the group UGK ‘Pimp C’ was found dead in a West Hollywood hotel in December.
The rapper, whose real name was Chad Butler was found lying in his bed at the Mondrian Hotel in West Hollywood dead on December 4th, 2007. He checked into the hotel on November 28th and was found dead after failing to check out of the hotel as expected.
The LA Coroner’s office says that the cough syrup amount found in his system was not necessarily excessive but that in combination with sleep apnea, the medication stopped his beathing.
When found, the rapper’s body was in a state of decomposition. And there was no indication of trauma or drug paraphernalia found at the scene.
Pimp C had colloborated with higher-profile artists, including Jay-Z (on the hit “Big Pimpin’ “) and the Oscar-winning rap group Three 6 Mafia (with which UGK recorded “Sippin on Sizzurp,” an ode to getting high from drinking cough medicine), are considered hip-hop classics, UGK’s more enduring claim to fame may be helping to establish Southern rap.
In 2002, Butler was sentenced to eight years in prison after falling behind on court-ordered community service.
That sentence had been imposed after the rapper-producer pleaded no contest to aggravated assault charges; he had brandished a gun during an argument
