Wei Tang makes a stunning debut in Ang Lee’s ‘Lust, Caution’

Wei Tang and Hong Kong legend Tony Leung Chiu Wai heat up the screen
As many know already, one of the most ‘talked about’ films of 2007 is Ang Lee’s “Lust, Caution”, perhaps the fact that the film has several erotic scenes as well as the full frontal and back nudity of Chinese starlet Wei Tang are the reasons that the film got so much attention. Another reason might be the fact that this film is the follow up for Ang Lee’s most triumphant and praised film to date - “Brokeback Mountain”
Regardless, the performance as ‘Wang Jiazhi’ that the 28 year old actress Wei Tang gives is astronomically amazing to watch and I hope that she is rewarded with an Academy Award nomination for her complex work this year. At 5′ 7¾” tall, the atypically lengthy Chinese actress known as “Rebecca” in America originates from the Zhejiang Province in China. Perhaps Ang Lee took a liking to her because she’s a gradaute from the directing program at the Central Academy of Drama in Beijing.
He must have seen something very special in her because she was cast for the role after the director’s team looked at 10,000 actresses for the part. Since the film has released, Wang Tei has been honored as “Asian Female Star of the Year” by CineAsia 2007 and by Variety as one of the Top 10 Actors to Watch for 2007. In addition she’s currently nominated for an Independent Spirit Award for Best Female Lead Actress.
