Toronto Film Fest is underway…
The Toronto Film Festival began on September 6th and this festival- a revitalized and important source of buzz generating looks to repeat what it has created in the past few years for important films such as Brokeback Mountain.
Jake Gyllenhaal of Brokeback Mountain stars in ”Rendition” with Reese Witherspoon. The terrorism drama is generating a lot of business and Gyllenhaal’s gay turn as a cowboy in Brokeback means Toronto loves him.
The opening night film - Fugitive Pieces, adapted from the book by Anne Michaels. It is a Holocaust film which apparently left audiences with mixed reactions.
The George Clooney corporate malfeasance thriller, Michael Clayton is also getting lots of buzz as is the Jodie Foster revenge drama called The Brave One
Ang Lee’s Lust, Caution, is about a torrid love affair during the Japan’s occupation of China during WWII. Apparently there is a lot of buzz about the sex scenes in the film which is currently rated NC 17 (let’s see if that sticks till release)
The Coen brothers’ Texas crime thriller, No Country For Old Men, which premiered at the Cannes film festival in May is also hotly anticipated.
