Sean Penn is milking the Harvey Milk Story for the Big Screen
href=”http://www.hollywoodreporter.com/hr/content_display/news/e3i3a070e987d4f747c75d8c95f421c7e6a”>The Hollywood Reporter says that Michael London’s (Sideways) Groundswell Productions is going to finance a Jinks/Cohen (American Beauty) production of a movie about gay politician Harvey Milk.
Sean Penn will play Harvey Milk and Matt Damon his assasin in a film to be directed by Gus Van Sant (Good Will Hunting.) This project from the gay Van Sant is also pitted against another Harvey Milk project to be coming from “openly gay” director Bryan Singer (Superman Returns)
The Milk story is interesting as he was a prominent politician and gay rights activist and the first openly gay city supervisor of San Francisco, California. He and Mayor George Moscone were assassinated in 1978 by Dan White. White was sentenced to only seven years in prison. The lenient verdict led to the White Night Riots in San Francisco by enraged citizens. Milk is seen by the gay community to be a martyr for that cause.

This cast & director should guarantee a artfully procuced effort. Matt Damon actually looks somewhat like Dan White, and Sean Penn is versatile enough to play anyone!
