Friday Box Office Estimates for August 3, 2007
Friday Box Office – August 3, 2007
1. The Bourne Ultimatum (Universal) – $24.504M
2. The Simpsons Movie (Fox) – $8.1M
3. Underdog (Buena Vista) – $4.1M
4. I Now Pronounce You Chuck & Larry (Universal) – $3.29M
5. Hairspray – $3M
6. Harry Potter & the Order of the Phoenix (Warner Bros) – $2.67M
7. No Reservations – $2.12M
8. Hot Rod (Paramount) – $1.95M
9. Bratz – $1.725M
10. Transformers (Dreamworks/Paramount) – $1.655M
11. Ratatouille – $1.185M
12. El Cantante – $1M
The Bourne Ultimatum - Paul Greengrass and Matt Damon combine for a spectacular Friday night opening which will now easily surpass The Bourne Supremacy’s $52 million opening at the end of July 2004.
Underdog – A very impressive $4.1 million and third place opening day for this film surprises lots of analysts especially cause the trailer and TV spots looked so bad and because films such as Firehouse Dog stank like dog poo poo this year. Obviously shows that Disney knows how to work this type of film better than anyone else.
Hot Rod – A dissapointing showing for Andy Samberg and the Saturday Night Live movie legacy. Opening day with $1.95 million is not really good and neither is the 8th place finish behind No Reservations (which will surpass $20 million in 9 days of release)
El Cantante – On just 542 screens for Picturehouse, the Jennifer Lopez and Marc Anthony starrer improved surprisingly strong relative to analysts view. My reasoning is the outdoor bus campaign which was the strongest at targetting the demographic for this film (i.e. people who ride the bus)
Bratz – The Lionsgate release tanked on Friday. The film, geared for preteen girls, could only scrounge $1.75 million to start the weekend, and it will finish the weekend with an approximate $4.5 million.
