Analysis
As expected THE SIMPSONS jumped out into an impressive and sizable lead on Friday night earning a hefty $29.4 million. This means that the film should surpass $60 million this weekend. Internationally we are hearing that THE SIMPSONS opened very big on France in its first day on Wednesday, scoring 30% more than THE TRANSFORMERS in that territory.
NO RESERVATIONS earned a respectable $4 million and should have a decent teen opening for what would be considered the biggest counter-programming release of the summe.
I KNOW WHO KILLED ME over-performed relative to expectations and trackign earning $1.3 million on Friday night but the weekend multiplier could be low because of the lookey-loo factor. It will be interesting to see if the film can hit a $5 million opening for Lindsay Lohan and company.
WHO’S YOUR CADDY was very dissapointing and proved that by combining sports and urban comedy (no value internationally) that it isn’t worth it to risk it all on the domestic marketplace. Especially when you can’t get the support of urban film-goers on a Friday night.
