Hollywood Gets All Political - An Ongoing Series

Big news in Hollywood D.C. this week. Multi-hyphenate Steven Spielberg has officially declared his support and endorsement of Senator Hillary Clinton in the 2008 Presidential elections. The Oscar winning director says that Clinton is best suited for the job at the White House and that she will bring the USA “back together.” Spielberg continued on to say:

“I’ve taken the time to familiarize myself with the impressive field of Democratic candidates and am convinced that Hillary Clinton is the most qualified candidate to lead us from her first day in the White House. Hillary is a strong leader and is respected the world over. As president, she will bring America back together, rebuild our prestige abroad and ensure our protection here at home.”

In other words what Spielberg is saying is this – “I am a billionaire. I have won Oscars and you haven’t – so listen to me – since I have so much spare time on my hand in between counting my thousand dollar bills to research the candidates and you common scum do not – and my opinion is this- go with Hillary Clinton – cause she is much better than any other Democratic candidate.”

Well hog-wash to you Mr. Spielberg. Why would you want to influence the Democratic process and especially why are you so interested in backing the front-runner and former wife of President Bill Clinton? Were you invited to some fancy dinners in the Clinton White House? Tax breaks? A presidential pardon was given to your biggest fan? Not sure about you – loyal Box Office Psychics reader – but every time I hear a Hollywood personality speak out for one particular candidate I get suspicious. Why not just say – I’m a Democrat and I’ll support whoever the nominee ends up being cause Lord knows the Republicans are plain evil. I’d be more down with something like that.

Meanwhile on the East Coast, Jake Gyllenhaal is “considering” making his Broadway debut in the upcoming political drama “FARRAGUAT NORTH” – apparently this is the fictionalized retelling of the 2004 Presidential campaign of Democratic candidate and current Democratic party chairman Howard Dean. The play was created by former Dean campaign staffer Beau Willmon and will be produced by Broadway dude Jeffrey Richards.

Me thinks it would be a good idea if Gyllenhaal went to Broadway for a season, he’s been hogging all the good bitches out here on the Left Coast for too long. Break a leg Brokeback Jakester!
