WHAT’S IN THE CARDS

Fantastic Four: Rise of the Silver Surfer – Though this summer seems to be all about sequels, don’t expect FF2 to perform like that OTHER Marvel comic film that came out earlier in the year. This franchise doesn’t have nearly the pull of the webbed one, and it doesn’t help matters than the CGI in the trailers looks like it was taken from some SciFi Network premiere about giant bugs.

Nancy Drew – I guess there’s a healthy home video market for these tween chick flicks, because the studios keep spitting them out despite the fact that they NEVER perform at the box office. The coolest thing about this movie is that it stars Eric Roberts’ daughter, and she’s definitely pedo bait.

D.O.A. – Kick-ass fighting game turned into a T&A schlock-fest that would make Uwe Bole proud. Weinsteins obviously have a lot of faith in this film as they’re releasing it on 500 screens.

Also in limited:

FIDO – CMAC’s pick for the weekend, this Billy Connolly zombedy looks hilarious. Hey Hollywood, instead of throwing money at snuff-lite trash like HOSTEL 2 and CROWBAR RAPIST 5 and all that Eli Roth poseur horror bullshit, why not get behind clever and entertaining films like this?

Eagle Vs. Shark – This year’s Napoleon Dynamite, or Little Miss Sunshine, or name your Fox Searchlight indie comedy of choice. You know, the indie film world’s pervasive Wes Anderson worship would make a lot more sense if the dude had made more than 2 good movies. All this shit looks like an iPod commercial to me. Yeah that Brady Bunch color palette was a laugh-riot 10 years ago. Jim Jarmusch would be rolling in his grave, were he not still alive, kind of.
