WHAT’S IN THE CARDS
TMNT - Finally we have a film to displace the R-Rated hyper-violent CGI spectacle known as 300 as box office topper, in the form of the PG-rated hyper-violent CGI spectacle known as TMNT. Reviews not great, but does TMNT’s chocolate-smeared under-12 target audience read the papers? They can barely make it through an issue of Highlights without wetting themselves. Hey, I happen to love the half-shell heroes in all their cheesy forms, and as I was also raised by rats in a sewer pipe I can relate, man. I can relate. I predict big dumb mindless fun.
The Last Mimzy - I have no idea what this movie’s about but it’s definitely the stupidest name for a movie since Gigli. Don’t expect kids to want to see this crap when they could just as well be watching anthropomorphic turtles who are ninjas.
Shooter - Marky Mark and his Funky Bunch star in this adaptation of Steven Hunter’s novel about a double-crossed ex-Military sniper who sets out to track down those who set him up. Sort of a Rambo for the post-9/11 “saw Loose Change too many times” conspiracy theory set, film should be a welcome distraction for childless adults who don’t get off on homoerotic sword n’ sandals movies.
The Hills Have Eyes II - Frog director Alexandre Aja’s 2006 remake of Wes Craven’s classic Hills Have Eyes was one of the few watchable horror remakes that Hollywood has been shitting out lately like Nicole Richie after a box of ex-lax. Aja did not return for Hills II however, a film which has the ignoble distinction of being not just a crappy remake, but a crappy SEQUEL to a remake. Film will do nominal-to-mediocre numbers as should be expected.
Here’s a little life-lesson for all you studio-affiliated creative execs: You don’t get horror. You don’t understand the genre. You weren’t the fat asocial metal-head digging through back issues of Fangoria and dreaming lollipop dreams about rape, torture, severed heads and arterial spray. You were popular. You had friends. You were in a sorority. Accept it. Deal with it. Leave horror to the creepy dudes in Slayer t-shirts and the sketchy mob-affiliated private financiers who love them.
Also in limited: Reign Over Me, Pride.

hi,
I’m sick and tired of cgi base movies, they are so fake and pointless.yes they might do good in box office once in a while, but most of their audiences are simple teens who even sleep with their gamers.i don’t get it when I see somebody put his name in the title list of a cgi base movie, what exactly he claiming done as a directer!!directing fake images?
