John August To Write Shazam
August to Adapt Shazam!
Screenwriter/celebrity blogger John August will script New Line’s film adaptation of funny book Shazam! according to the Hollywood Reporter. August — whose writing credits include Go, Charlie and the Chocolate Factory and Big Fish — recently directed first feature THE NINES which debuted at Sundance this year. No word yet whether August’s Shazam will drive around the country in a Winnebago with a creepy old pedarist called “Mentor” like in the 70’s TV show, but August does hope to focus on the dichotomy between 13-year-old Billy Batson and the spandex-and-cape-clad superhero he magically transforms into when uttering the word “Shazam!” John August is gay and bald.
